Would you like to Improve the SEO article rankings of all of your articles? If you can answer yes to any of these questions this article will give you a very simple method of improving your rankings in the search engines for your SEO writing. Ready? Then let’s get started.
What is a SEO Article?
I will not assume that you know what a search engine optimized (SEO) article is even though you are here reading this article. If you do please bear with me while I give a brief definition for those who don’t know.
SEO writing is a main building block in your article marketing efforts. These articles are written with the purpose of being picked up and highly indexed by the major search engines while being interesting and highly informative to your readers.
What is a keyword?
Since keywords and keyword phrases are essential to effective SEO article writing, for those who are not familiar with keywords or keywords phrases, here is a brief definition of what they are. For the sake of this article I will define keyword as any word or phrase that an individual will type into a search engine to locate specific information, product, business, or service.
How to Do Simple Keyword Research for Your SEO Writing
It is first important to understand that keywords are an intricate element of articles that will be picked up and indexed by the major serps. Here are some simple steps to locating the best keywords for your article.
1. In the first step you will want to concentrate on finding as may keywords and phrases as you possibly can. So think about keywords and phrases that would very clearly describe what your article is about. The use of an online thesaurus and dictionary will help. No keyword that is relevant that you think of at this point is off limits.
You can get more help generating keywords and phrases for your article by using keyword research tools that can deliver hundreds of keyword phrases. If your budget is tight the free ones such as Google Keyword tool will work just fine. If your budget will allow for a little more you can grab downloadable software like “Marketing Samurai” or web based paid services like “WordTracker”.
2. In the second step you will need find out the popularity also the competition level of the keyword phrases you have found. Though you can use the Google keyword tool for this task I find that some of the paid solutions work faster, and somewhat better for what you are looking for.
For example some paid SEO tools will give you the number of searches per day for a particular keyword or phrase. It will also analyze the competition for your keywords so that you can determine if that keyword is worth your while going after.
Once you have completed your keyword search and competition analysis it is a simple step for you to move or export your data from the paid solution to your hard drive where you can look over your information on an Excel worksheet and get rid of any keywords that you don’t want. Don’t get me wrong you can do the same data analysis with the free keyword tools but I can get more detailed information from some of the paid solutions..
3. Now that you have most of the research out of the way it is time for the third step choosing the keywords phrases that you will use for your article. Look for phrases that have a high level of search activity, while the level of competitiveness is relatively low. For making your final selection of 15-20 keyword phrases you will want to do a Google search on the keyword phrases and check the top 5-10 articles listed for that keyword. Are the articles there well written? Can you deliver a better article? If so then you have a very good chance to move your article into that page rank. It may be very well worth your time going for.
In conclusion I would like to say that the number of backlinks that your competitors have to their article will also play a big part on if you will go for that SE position. I will discuss that in detail in a separate article. For now you know enough about keyword research to do competitive SEO article writing.
